In academia the sequestration on process is vital to conducting a successful analysis of an allegation of research misconduct. Indiana University’s goal is to enhance the research integrity community’s understanding of the importance and eff ects of the role of sequestration in research misconduct allegations through a multi-disciplinary approach involving national subject matter experts. Individual presenters include IT forensic specialists, general counsel and legal representatives, research integrity offi cers and staff , compliance and safety personnel,campus security and counseling services. The goal is to provide practical tools and resources to successfully implement what is learned from this innovative and interactive conference. The outcomes will include a best practice guidance document to be disseminated to the research integrity community, along with video vignettes to further illustrate the importance and ramifications of effective versus ineffective sequestrations. This meeting, co-sponsored with the University of California, San Diego, convenes experts from Asia and the Pacific Rim and North America, along with representatives of the National Science Foundation, journals, and senior institutional officials to help raise awareness of U.S research misconduct regulations and share recommendations around promoting the responsible conduct of research. The Quest for Research Excellence Conference has been rescheduled to March 15-16, 2012, at the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center. Originally scheduled for August 2011, the conference was postponed due to Hurricane Irene. The upcoming conference will have a similar agenda with features such as Dr. Joe Palca from NPR and a mini-RIO Boot Camp for institutional officials responsible for handling research misconduct.
